> Siting the gauge:
|
Ideally, any rain gauge should be located
so that it is well away from trees, buildings, walls etc., such that the
'natural' rainfall falling from the sky is neither blocked or enhanced. It is
easy to see why trees etc., should not get in the way; it is not obvious why a
gauge should be sited away from walls, buildings. However, these will distort
the wind flow and sweep the raindrops either away from the gauge or concentrate
them towards it, depending upon the conditions. ... In practice, you have to use the best place possible consistent with your situation. With time, you will be able to judge whether you are over or under-recording. |
